Dr. Joel I. Brenner is retiring after over two decades in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. He has been a member of the Baltimore medical community for 45 years and practiced pediatric cardiology for more than 50 years.
As the Director of Pediatric Cardiology for nearly 20 years, Dr. Brenner worked to ensure the division remained a world leader in advancing pediatric cardiology. He was instrumental in growing the Division of Pediatric Cardiology from five to 16 full-time cardiologists and leading the charge to expand the division’s services in areas outside Baltimore City, such as Westminster, Hagerstown, Cumberland, and Annapolis. In addition, Dr. Brenner was able to grow the pediatric cardiology trainee program from two to six fellows per year.
During his tenure, philanthropy became an essential element to the success of the division. Dr. Brenner focused on building a strong structure for his team and the patients they served long beyond his tenure by strategically leveraging relationships with grateful patients and donors to create numerous funds that support the division today.
That is why many of his patients and families have chosen to honor him through the creation of the Dr. Joel I. Brenner Endowed Fund at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. The principle of this fund will live in perpetuity to support the Children’s Center and the patients and families we serve, all in honor of Dr. Joel Brenner.
We welcome you to make a donation, below, to support this fund and help us celebrate the incredible legacy of Dr. Brenner.
